BGIM: ‘POC’ is overused; we need to be more deliberate about naming the targets of racism
That is why if we are to do justice for all the Black lives lost, especially for brown and white allies, than we must not only speak truth to power—we must speak the whole truth to power. And sometimes the truth does hurt but it is the truth and nothing but the truth that will set us free.
How do we love a country that breaks our hearts?
We keep fighting. That’s how. We keep fighting for our loved ones, for the things we love about this country. We keep fighting for country we want and dream of. We keep fighting for the America we believe in and the America we believe we can be.
A Burning City on a Hill
Yes, America is a shining city on a hill. But the light is from a thousand fires fanned by the convergence of multiple storm fronts: A growing, white supremacist movement; a white, male demagogue all too happy to exploit its violent tendencies and rhetoric; anti-immigrant fervor; anti-Muslim sentiments; protectionism; isolationism; and systemic, blatant, and latent racism. Unfortunately, this list is not exhaustive.
